Amman Governor Yasser Adwan on Sunday ordered the administrative detention of two men accused of chanting slogans deemed offensive to Jordan’s security services and army during a protest held near the US Embassy in Amman.

The two individuals were detained under Article 3 of the Crime Prevention Law, which allows for administrative detention without a set time limit.

Lawyer Bassam Freihat told Roya that the men were not referred to the public prosecutor but were instead brought directly before the governor, who decided to detain them.

Freihat added that he intends to submit a request for their release, arguing that there is no evidence they insulted the army or the nation.

Earlier, a security source confirmed to Roya that two participants in the recent demonstrations in Amman were apprehended for chanting slogans offensive to authorities.

Videos circulated on social media showed individuals chanting against security forces during Friday protest in the capital. The source emphasized that legal action would be taken against those involved in accordance with the law.
