China strikes back with 34% tariff on US goods

China announced it will impose a retaliatory 34 percent tariff on a range of American imports beginning April 10.

In a statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Finance, officials criticized recent US trade policies, saying that the American tariffs targeting Chinese goods “are not in line with international trade rules.”

On Wednesday, Trump hit numerous countries with a baseline tariff of 10 percent, with additional tariffs depending on each country. China was hit with a 34 percent tariff, on top of the 20 percent he imposed earlier this year, bringing the total new levies to a sweeping 54 percent.
