Man sentenced to death for strangling his cancer-stricken mother
A Jordanian court has sentenced a man to death by hanging for strangling his cancer-stricken mother to death and leaving her lifeless body behind.
The Grand Criminal Court found the man, in his 20s, guilty of murdering his mother who was in her 60s, ruling that the crime violated Article 328/3 of the Penal Code.
Crime Details
The victim lived alone with her son in Aqaba. On the day of the murder, he had taken drugs before asking his mother to call his wife, who had left him after a fight. The mother complied, requesting her daughter-in-law to return and help her bathe.
Moments later, she asked her son for a glass of water. After she drank it, without any provocation, he lifted her head off the pillow and strangled her to death before leaving the house.
His wife and mother-in-law later arrived to check on the elderly woman and found her unconscious. When the wife screamed, the murderer rushed in, pretending to be unaware of what had happened. He took his mother to the hospital, where an autopsy confirmed that she had died from strangulation.
