A day after a twin suicide bombing targeted a military base in Bannu, northwestern Pakistan, the city observed a day of mourning. The attack, claimed by a group linked to the Pakistani Taliban, killed 18 people, including 13 civilians and five soldiers, and left 42 wounded, some critically.

The bombing, which occurred during Ramadan, caused the roof of a nearby mosque to collapse and left dozens wounded. Six militants were killed in a firefight with security forces after they attempted to storm the base.

The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities search for more casualties under the rubble. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, vowing that Pakistan would not allow the enemies of the nation to succeed.
