"Israeli" actress Gal Gadot was initially set to present the award for Best Documentary at the 2025 Academy Awards but was reassigned to a different category, "coincidentally" avoiding the moment when No Other Land, a film critical of the Israeli Occupation, took home the Oscar.

The documentary, a collaboration between Palestinian and "Israeli" filmmakers, follows activist Basel Adra as he documents the destruction of his hometown in the West Bank by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF). Its win marked a significant moment for Palestinian storytelling on the world stage, with filmmakers using their acceptance speech to call out "Israel’s" actions in Gaza.

Ahead of the ceremony, Gadot had been listed as one of the presenters for the Best Documentary category. However, when the time came to announce the winner, she was absent, with Samuel L. Jackson and Selena Gomez presenting the award instead.

Gadot was then assigned to present the Best Visual Effects award instead, raising speculation about whether the change was intentional.

The Academy has not commented on the reason behind the switch, and Gadot has not addressed it publicly. However, the timing of the reassignment has led to discussions on social media, with some suggesting that the move was intentional, given the film’s subject matter.
