Lavrov warns of "time bomb" if Palestinians evacuated from Gaza
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned on Wednesday, during his visit to Qatar, that the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza would create a "time bomb" in the Middle East.
Lavrov's remarks came in response to a plan announced by US President Donald Trump, which included the permanent relocation of over two million Palestinians from Gaza and turning the region into the "Riviera of the Middle East" under US supervision.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated: "The plan is really successful, but I won’t impose it. I will make my recommendations, and then the United States will take responsibility for the site."
Jordanians, Egyptians reject the plan
Trump expressed surprise at the rejection of the reconstruction plan by both Jordan and Egypt, despite the financial aid the US provides to these countries. He said, "We pay billions of dollars every year to Jordan and Egypt, and I was a little surprised that they rejected the plan."
On Jan. 25, Trump proposed that the US take control of Gaza, relocate its inhabitants to other countries, particularly Egypt and Jordan, and rebuild the region to transform it into the "Riviera of the Middle East."
In the days that followed, Trump reiterated the idea of US control over Gaza and the permanent displacement of its residents without granting them the right to return, sparking widespread debate within political and international circles.
