Palestinian official urges action on delayed detainee release
The head of the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Raed Abu Al-Hummus, on Monday called for urgent Egyptian-Qatari intervention to pressure 'Israeli' authorities into halting violations of the prisoner exchange agreement and ensuring the release of the seventh batch of detainees, which was supposed to take place on Saturday evening.
Abu Al-Hummus condemned Israeli Occupation’s delay in implementing the agreement, stating that the deliberate postponement reflects a systematic policy aimed at creating tension and anxiety among political prisoners and their families.
He added that Israeli Occupation is attempting to evade its commitments but will not succeed in breaking the will of the Palestinian people, who remain steadfast in their demand for the release of all political prisoners.
Abu Al-Hummus emphasized the need to rein in the Israeli Occupation's negotiating team and compel them to uphold the terms of the agreement, warning against repeated violations that expose the weaknesses of the 'Israeli' system.
He also noted that "Israel" has not only delayed the release but has intensified its field measures by tightening its grip on the West Bank, setting up more than 900 checkpoints and iron gates, and preventing citizens from reaching Ramallah and Al-Bireh on prisoner release days—further demonstrating its oppressive policies.
Abu Al-Hummus confirmed that efforts are ongoing with relevant parties to ensure the agreement’s implementation, highlighting significant Egyptian pressure to compel "Israel" to release the seventh batch within the coming hours or days.
