Sisi stresses urgency of Gaza reconstruction without displacement
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized the need to begin the reconstruction of Gaza in a way that ensures its long-term viability without displacing Palestinian residents. His remarks came during a phone call with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday.
Sisi stated that the reconstruction efforts must uphold the rights of Palestinians and safeguard their ability to live on their land.
The Egyptian president reiterated that the establishment of a Palestinian state is "the only guarantee for lasting peace" in the region, stressing that any attempt to undermine Palestinian rights would be unacceptable to Egypt.
His comments followed recent remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who suggested that the US should oversee Gaza’s administration and transform it into the "Riviera of the Middle East," while relocating its Palestinian residents to other countries.
Trump’s proposal sparked widespread outrage across the Arab world, with Arab nations strongly rejecting any efforts to forcibly remove Palestinians and reaffirming their commitment to a two-state solution that includes an independent Palestinian state.
In response, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry issued an official statement reiterating the country’s firm stance against any attempts to violate Palestinian rights, including their right to self-determination and to remain on their land.
