French Ambassador to Jordan, Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison, reaffirmed on Sunday France’s strong commitment to a two-state solution as the only viable resolution to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Speaking at a press conference, the ambassador emphasized France’s steadfast support for Jordan, calling it a "friend and ally."

France, the ambassador stated, has been clear in its position regarding the recent developments in Gaza, responding swiftly to condemn forced displacement and reaffirm its core principles in the region. President Emmanuel Macron, along with the French government and Foreign Minister, have all reiterated the same stance.

"France firmly opposes any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank," the ambassador declared, warning that such actions would have four severe consequences:

  • A serious violation of international law
  • A direct threat to the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians
  • A major obstacle to the two-state solution
  • A significant risk to the stability of Jordan and Egypt

Similarly, the ambassador stressed that France opposes settlement expansion and annexation in the West Bank, insisting that the only path forward is the establishment of a viable Palestinian state in Gaza and the West Bank, living in peace and security.

The press conference also addressed the recent ceasefire agreement, which France welcomed as a "significant step toward ending the war and paving the way for a political resolution." The ambassador urged all parties to uphold the terms of the agreement.

Regarding Hamas, the ambassador reiterated France’s position, stating that the group "must be disarmed and should not play a role in governing Gaza."

The ambassador also announced an upcoming international conference in New York in June, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, aimed at implementing the two-state solution. The initiative follows French President Macron’s commitment made during his official visit to Riyadh in late 2024.

"The future of Gaza must be part of a future Palestinian state under the authority of the Palestinian Authority," the ambassador concluded.
