Syrian leader Ahmad Al-Sharaa to depart on first diplomatic visit
Ahmad Al-Sharaa, leader of Syria's new administration, is set to make his first international visit to Turkey, according to reports by Turkey’s Daily Sabah.
While neither Turkey nor Syria has officially commented on the visit, Al-Sharaa is expected to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss key issues, including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
President Erdogan has pledged support for Syria’s new administration in its efforts to build state structures and draft a new constitution as the country seeks recovery after over 13 years of war.
In related developments, Erdogan has threatened a new cross-border operation against Kurdish armed factions in Syria if Turkey perceives any threat.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was among the first officials to visit Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
