The awards ceremony, which took place at the White House, celebrated those who have made significant impacts in various fields, including public service, activism, the arts, and the sciences.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the US, global peace, or significant societal endeavors.
The following recipients were honored:
- José Andrés: Renowned Spanish-American chef and humanitarian, Andrés founded World Central Kitchen, providing relief to communities impacted by disasters and conflict.
- Bono: The U2 frontman and activist has made remarkable strides in combating AIDS and poverty, co-founding initiatives like ONE and (RED) while advocating for the PEPFAR AIDS program.
- Ashton Baldwin Carter (posthumous): The 25th Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter dedicated his life to enhancing national security and served under multiple administrations.
- Hillary Rodham Clinton: The first female presidential nominee from a major US political party.

- Earvin “Magic” Johnson: The legendary basketball player is also a philanthropist and entrepreneur, dedicated to supporting underserved communities through his foundation.
