Jordan is set to welcome the New Year with diminishing rain chances and widespread dense fog, according to ArabiaWeather’s forecasts.

The prevailing low-pressure system will gradually dissipate on New Year’s Eve, leading to a significant reduction in rainfall across most regions. However, nighttime conditions will see increased humidity, creating a high probability of dense fog formation in various parts of the kingdom.

Fog and frost

On Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with conditions becoming extremely cold, particularly in mountainous areas, eastern plains, and desert regions. Limited and scattered rainfall may persist in parts of southern Jordan early in the evening.

Dense fog is predicted to blanket large areas late at night, especially in the eastern plains, including Zizia, Daba'a, and Queen Alia International Airport, potentially reducing visibility to near zero. Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution during late-night and early-morning hours due to reduced visibility. Frost formation is also a concern in elevated regions and the eastern plains.

New Year's Day outlook

Temperatures will begin to rise slightly on Wednesday, the first day of 2025, nearing seasonal averages. While the morning will see lingering fog in some areas, it is expected to dissipate by midday. The weather will remain cold, with light and variable winds.

Warmth ahead

ArabiaWeather forecasts a noticeable temperature increase on Thursday and Friday, with highs exceeding seasonal norms by 3–5°C.

In mountainous areas, the weather will remain relatively cold, but most regions will experience mild to warm conditions. The Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba are expected to be especially warm, with highs reaching the mid-20s°C. Amman’s eastern neighborhoods will see temperatures of around 18°C.

Large day-night temperature swings

Despite warmer daytime conditions, nights will remain cold, with temperatures dropping near freezing in desert and plain areas. This sharp contrast, up to 13°C in some locations, is attributed to short daylight hours and prolonged nighttime cooling.

Residents are advised to take precautions against frost in vulnerable areas and prepare for reduced visibility due to fog in the coming days.
