White House declares January 9 national day of mourning for Jimmy Carter

30-12-2024 10:14|US President Joe Biden issued a proclamation designating January 9 as a national day of mourning to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100, the White House announced.

"I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President James Earl Carter, Jr," Biden said. "I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance."
Carter served as president from 1977 to 1981.
