Trump urges Supreme Court to block TikTok ban

President-elect Donald Trump urged the Supreme Court to block a potential ban on TikTok, expressing a preference for a "political resolution" before the ban takes effect.

The appeal coincides with conflicting legal filings from TikTok and the Biden administration. TikTok seeks to overturn legislation that could ban the app by Jan. 19, 2025, while the US government defends the law as vital to national security.

Speaking to Arizona supporters, Trump emphasized TikTok’s impact, noting billions of views on the platform during his campaign. He expressed a willingness to allow the app’s temporary operation in the US.

Meanwhile, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, faces a legal mandate to divest its ownership due to national security concerns raised by the Senate last April.

With the Supreme Court agreeing to review the case, the ruling could decide TikTok’s future in the US. If the law stands or ByteDance fails to divest, the app could be banned by January 19, a day before Trump’s inauguration, intensifying debates over its fate.
