The Azerbaijani airline announced on Friday that initial findings from the investigation into the crash of its aircraft in Kazakhstan on Wednesday suggest the incident was caused by "external physical and technical interference."

The aircraft, an Embraer 190, crashed while attempting an emergency landing in Kazakhstan, resulting in the deaths of 38 people out of the 67 onboard.

Reports indicate that Azerbaijani authorities suspect the crash was caused by a Russian-made "Pantsir-S" anti-aircraft missile fired at the plane, which was en route from Baku to Grozny, Russia.

Further reports also mention the presence of Ukrainian drone activity near the crash site in Chechnya, fueling speculations about the involvement of external parties.

The plane had requested an emergency landing at the nearest Russian airport after sustaining damage, but the request was denied, forcing the crew to continue flying over the Caspian Sea before crashing in Kazakhstan.
