VIDEO: Azerbaijani passenger plane crashes, explodes in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations reported Wednesday that a passenger plane traveling from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, crashed near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. The aircraft was carrying around 70 people.
Emergency crews are battling a fire at the crash site. Videos circulating on social media captured the plane swaying in the air before crashing and exploding upon impact.
Authorities confirmed that 25 people survived the crash, including 14 who were hospitalized. Five remain in critical condition.
The aircraft, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, was rerouted due to heavy fog in Grozny. Officials have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties or the cause of the crash.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
