Syria’s new authorities announced the destruction of large quantities of drugs, including approximately one million Captagon pills, which were widely produced under the ousted president Bashar al-Assad, security sources told AFP on Wednesday.

An official source said, “The security forces of the new Syrian government discovered a drug warehouse while sweeping the capital, Damascus, specifically within the security zone in Kafr Sousa.” A second source confirmed the seizure of nearly or over one million Captagon pills, which were immediately destroyed.

An AFP photographer reported that security personnel set fire to large quantities of cannabis, boxes of the painkiller Tramadol, and around fifty small bags filled with pink Captagon pills.
