Jordan welcomes UN efforts to clarify Israeli Occupation's obligations
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the UN General Assembly's adoption of a resolution seeking an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on "Israel's" obligations as an occupying power.
Ambassador Sufyan Qudah, the ministry's spokesperson, highlighted that the resolution emphasizes "Israel's" responsibility not to obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid and essential services to Palestinians, particularly in Gaza. It also reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
Furthermore, the resolution urges the Israeli Occupation to respect the rights of international organizations operating in the occupied territories and to ensure their neutrality, underlining the crucial role of UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East).
Qudah stressed the importance of holding "Israel" accountable under international law and urged an end to its repeated aggressions. He noted that Jordan will continue to coordinate with the international community to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and humanitarian organizations.
