Time magazine has once again honored Donald Trump as its "Person of the Year."

This marks the second time Trump has received this accolade, having previously been named in 2016.

"For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America's role in the world, Donald Trump is TIME's 2024 Person of the Year," stated Sam Jacobs, Time's Editor-in-Chief, in a letter to readers.

In celebration of this recognition, Trump is scheduled to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Thursday, joined by several family members.

Trump’s initial selection as Person of the Year came after his victory in the 2016 presidential election. Time Magazine's tradition of honoring influential figures began in 1927, initially under the title "Man of the Year." The award is bestowed upon individuals or movements that have significantly impacted the year's events, for better or for worse.

Previous recipients of this honor include prominent figures such as climate activist Greta Thunberg, former President Barack Obama, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Pope Francis, Taylor Swift, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The selection process for the award involves deliberation by Time’s editorial team, who considered ten individuals for this year's title. Among the contenders were Vice President Kamala Harris, the Princess of Wales, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is now an ally of Trump and will lead an advisory board called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
