Syrian opposition appoints Mohammad Bashir to form new government
Mohammad al-Bashir, the head of the Syrian Salvation Government which has managed Idlib for several years, was tasked with forming a new Syrian government to oversee the transitional phase, according to Al Jazeera.
This decision follows a meeting focused on power transfer arrangements and avoiding chaos in Syria. The meeting included opposition commander Ahmad al-Shar' and former Syrian regime Prime Minister Mohamed al-Jallali, who was appointed to manage government affairs.

Who is Mohammad al-Bashir?
Al-Bashir, born in Idlib in 1983, holds a degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Aleppo University (2007) and a law degree from Idlib University (2021). He previously served as the Director of Associations Affairs and later as the Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs in the Syrian Salvation Government in Idlib in 2022.
Diplomatic Meetings and Future Plans
Meanwhile, intensive meetings are being held between the opposition’s political affairs department and foreign diplomatic missions to discuss Syria's security and political future following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
The political affairs department in Damascus emphasized its commitment to creating a secure environment for returning Syrians and ensuring a transparent process to address past issues, with the aim of achieving lasting peace. The department also stressed its goal of fostering a constructive role for Syria in the region and globally, focusing on security, justice, and building institutions that meet the aspirations of the Syrian people.
The department highlighted the need for comprehensive societal reconciliation, based on justice and equality, and aims to strengthen Syria's relationships with other nations on the basis of mutual respect.
