Egyptian court classifies Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organization
The Egyptian Criminal Court officially classified the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, backing the Egyptian government’s stance in 2013.
The ruling comes from a court presided over by Judge Mohamed Saeed Al-Sharbini and also adds several prominent leaders and members of the Brotherhood to the terrorist list. Notable figures included in this designation are Yahia El-Sayed Mousa, Ali Ahmed Batikh, and Jihad El-Hadad.
Ahmed Moussa, an Egyptian journalist and media personality known for his pro-regime stance, publicly celebrated the court's decision.
“Congratulations! Here’s to the death penalty next. Rest assured, Egyptians, there will never be reconciliation with the traitorous Brotherhood terrorists,” he stated.
This ruling follows a recent development in which hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members were removed from the terrorist list in Egypt. This unexpected shift raised questions about whether President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi was contemplating a move toward reconciliation with the Brotherhood.
While some perceived the earlier decision as a significant breakthrough, critics dismissed it as a strategic distraction from pressing national issues, particularly the severe economic crisis gripping the country and the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza.
