Ohio woman who ate cat sentenced to one year in jail
An Ohio woman who killed and ate a cat was sentenced to one year in jail on Monday
“To me, you present quite a danger to our community,” Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione told the woman, Allexis Ferrell, 27 years old.
Ferrell pleaded guilty to a felony charge of animal cruelty; after police bodycam footage showed the woman eating the cat as horrified neighbours looked on and called 911.
The incident happened on August 16, and made national headlines after Donald Trump claimed that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio were eating local pets.
Officials said Ferrell is not an immigrant and her case is not tied to Trump’s claim – per the New York Post.
“You’ve embarrassed this county,” the judge said to the woman.
“You’ve embarrassed this nation. More importantly, you’ve embarrassed yourself.
“This is repulsive to me. I mean, that anyone would do this to an animal. And an animal’s like a child. I don’t know if you understand that or not…I can’t express the disappointment, shock, disgust that this crime has brought to me.
“I don’t know what could prompt anyone to want to eat a cat.”
The one year jail sentence will be added to an another 18-month sentence to a separate incident for two prior crimes, theft and child endangerment.
“It’s one of the most disturbing cases that I’ve seen as a prosecutor,” the Prosecutor told the New York Post.
