In a move to enhance services at tourist and archaeological sites, Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities received 10 modern electric vehicles donated by the South Korean government.

The handover ceremony took place at the Department of Antiquities in Amman, attended by Dr. Fadi Balawi, Secretary-General of the Ministry, and South Korean Ambassador to Jordan, Kim Pil-woo.

Strengthening sustainable tourism

Dr. Balawi expressed gratitude for South Korea’s support, stating, "Today, we celebrate a gesture that reflects the depth of bilateral relations and supports sustainable tourism development in Jordan. These vehicles will improve accessibility for people with disabilities, pregnant women, the elderly, and other groups, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive experience at our heritage and tourist sites."

He emphasized the uniqueness of Jordan’s archaeological sites, saying, "Our sites are not only numerous but also rare and distinctive, showcasing Jordan’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. With better accessibility, visitors can explore multiple sites in a single day, creating a more comprehensive tourist experience."

Enhancing cultural ties

Ambassador Kim highlighted the initiative as part of the broader cooperation between Jordan and South Korea in tourism and culture.

"Jordan is a preferred destination for many Koreans, offering remarkable places like Petra, the Dead Sea, the Roman ruins at Amman Citadel, and the stunning landscapes of Wadi Rum. This project symbolizes our shared commitment to making Jordan’s rich cultural heritage accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical ability," Kim said.

"These vehicles are more than just transportation—they represent our joint dedication to inclusivity and sustainable tourism, strengthening the deep friendship and partnership between our two nations,” he added.

The ministry plans to deploy the vehicles at key tourist and archaeological sites, aligning with its vision of sustainable tourism. The initiative aims to elevate service quality and improve visitor experiences, enabling broader access to Jordan’s historical and cultural wonders.
