Trump's first-day agenda: Vows to impose additional tariff on Chinese imports

26-11-2024 09:55|US President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to impose an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports starting Jan. 20, 2025, his first day in office.
Trump justified the move as a response to what he sees as China's failure to adequately curb drug smuggling into the US.
"Representatives of China told me that they would institute their maximum penalty, that of death, for any drug dealers caught doing this but," he posted on Truth Social. "Unfortunately, they never followed through."
He continued, "drugs are pouring into our country, mostly through Mexico, at levels never seen before."
"Until such time as they stop, we will be charging China an additional 10% tariff, above any additional tariffs."
