Gunfire in Amman: Authorities say armed assailant neutralized after targeting police patrol
Authorities said that it had dealt with a shooting early Sunday morning which involved a gunman opening fire at a police patrol in the area of Rabieh in the capital Amman.

According to an official statement by the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the gunman opened fire on a patrol operating in the area. Security forces were dispatched to the scene, and identified the shooter, who attempted to flee.
The suspect was pursued and surrounded but responded by firing at the security personnel. In accordance with engagement rules, the forces returned fire, resulting in the gunman's death – the statement said.

Three police officers sustained injuries during the operation. They were transported to a hospital, where their conditions were described as moderate. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident – the statement concluded.
