Jordan condemns 'Israeli' airstrike on UNRWA school in Gaza
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in the strongest terms the 'Israeli' bombing of Abu Assi School, run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), in Al-Shati Camp, as well as a residential home in Beit Lahia, Gaza.
The airstrikes resulted in the deaths of over 60 people and injured dozens, primarily women and children, in what was described as a blatant violation of international law, including the 1949 Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilians during Wartime. The attack also highlighted the systematic targeting of civilians and shelters for displaced persons.
Continued Violations of International Law
The ministry's spokesperson, Ambassador Dr. Sufian Qudah, reiterated Jordan's strong condemnation of Tel Aviv's ongoing breaches of international law and humanitarian law. He noted the lack of a strong international response to curb 'Israeli' aggression, which has led to unprecedented levels of destruction and a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Call for Protection and Accountability
Ambassador Qudah emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians, vital infrastructure, humanitarian facilities, and shelters in accordance with international law. He called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities by compelling Tel Aviv to immediately halt its aggression on Gaza, end its continuous violations of international law, and hold those responsible accountable.
