PSG may face sanctions for fans raising “Free Palestine” banner in UCL game
After fans of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) unveiled a giant “Free Palestine” banner at a UEFA Champions League (UCL) game yesterday against Atletico Madrid, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said it was “unacceptable”.
When asked if the team would face any sanctions for their pro-Palestine act, Retailleau told Sud Radio: “I am not ruling out anything. I will demand explanations from PSG.”
The act of solidarity comes days before France is set to face “Israel” in a UEFA Nations League game on Nov. 14 in Stade de France.
The banner showed the Dome of the Rock in front of Palestinian flag, with a masked man wearing a Keffiyeh raising his hand.
It also showed the full map of Palestine, along with the Lebanese flag.
“War on the pitch, but peace in the world,” a message said underneath the depiction.
During the match, PSG fans unfurled another banner that said: “Does a child’s life in Gaza mean less than another?”
