President Abdel Fattah Sisi said that Egypt has intensified efforts in recent days to launch a ceasefire initiative for Gaza, and added that his country proposed a two-day cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

He made the remarks during a press conference with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Sisi stated that the Egyptian ceasefire proposal aims to establish a two-day ceasefire, allowing for the exchange of four captives for several Palestinian prisoners held in “Israeli” jails.

He added that, following this initial truce, talks over the next 10 days would aim to negotiate further steps for a full ceasefire and humanitarian aid access.

“Our brothers in Gaza are facing a severe blockade nearing starvation levels, and it is essential that aid reaches them as soon as possible,” Sisi said, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
