Macron: France committed to protecting Lebanon’s sovereignty
French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized on Thursday, Oct. 24, the importance of a ceasefire in Lebanon and called for peacekeeping measures along the Blue Line.
He also reaffirmed France's commitment to supporting Lebanon by contributing to the redeployment and rearming of the Lebanese Army.
Macron stressed that ensuring Lebanon's stability and sovereignty remains a priority for France, particularly during this challenging period.
Israeli Occupation army has begun a wide-scale offensive in southern Lebanon on Sept. 22, 2024, targeting civilians, Lebanese army and Hezbollah's military front supporting Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
Additionally, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urged his 'Israeli' counterpart, Yoav Gallant, to avoid targeting the Lebanese Army. According to a statement from the Pentagon, Austin expressed "serious concern" over reports of strikes against Lebanese Armed Forces, emphasizing the need to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of both the Lebanese military and UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) operating in the region.
