Conscription in Jordan: Army urges males to rectify status at centers
Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hiyari, Director of Military Media Unit for the Jordanian Armed Forces, said that the process for “rectifying” the status of individuals required for military service, as announced by the army, involves visiting mobilization and reserve centers across all governorates.
This is to obtain a valid military service booklet or renew the service deferment for those who have outdated booklets that haven't been renewed in over a year.
During an appearance on the "Nabd Al-Balad" on Roya TV, Al-Hiyari explained that the rectification applies to Jordanian males between the ages of 18 and 40, and that deferments from military service are granted annually.
He further clarified that those over 40 must visit a mobilization center to obtain a one-time certificate confirming the end of their service obligation.
Once the certificate is issued, their data is automatically updated electronically. Al-Hiyari emphasized that this certificate is not required when traveling, and individuals will not be asked to present it.
The law allows for deferment of conscription service for those continuing their studies, from the ages of 18 to 28, covering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
Al-Hiyari noted that there is a mobilization center at Queen Alia International Airport operating 24/7, as well as representatives at the airport's comprehensive government services center, which also operates around the clock.
He said that military service is mandatory in Jordan by law, but the current effort is solely aimed at rectifying individuals' status.
Military conscription in Jordan has been suspended since 1991.
