Will PCR tests return to Jordan for monkeypox? Official answers

Dr. Mohammad Al-Hawarat, Director of the Communicable Diseases Directorate at the Ministry of Health, confirmed that the ministry has the full capabilities needed to detect monkeypox within its laboratories.

In an interview with Roya, Dr. Al-Hawarat stated that there is currently no need to test incoming travelers at the airport. He emphasized that a coordinated national plan has been prepared to detect any potential cases, monitor them, and isolate them if necessary. The plan also includes protocols for following up with contacts as outlined.

In regards to the health status of the monkeypox case announced on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, Dr. Al-Hawarat noted that the patient's condition is stable and they are still receiving treatment at Al-Bashir Hospital.

Dr. Raed Al-Shboul, Secretary-General for Primary Healthcare and Epidemics at the Ministry of Health, confirmed to Roya that the recorded monkeypox case involves a non-Jordanian resident in the kingdom.
