Venezuelan Supreme Court validates Maduro’s election victory
The Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice, widely regarded as supportive of the current government, officially approved the results of the July presidential election on Thursday.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court unequivocally validated the election materials and confirmed the results of the July 28, 2024, presidential election as announced by the National Electoral Council.
The decision came despite objections from the opposition and several foreign nations, who had raised concerns about allegations of electoral fraud.
The election saw President Nicolás Maduro securing victory against opposition candidate Edmundo González Oropesa.
The Venezuelan Electoral Commission had previously declared that Maduro, aged 61, won a third term of six years with 51.20 percent of the vote.
