New disability ID cards accepted for university admissions, discounts in Jordan
The Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) announced that identification cards have been approved for competition for seats allocated for students with disabilities at Jordanian universities.
The council's statement, in coordination with the Unified Admission Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, clarified that students must submit an application via the Unified Admission Unit's website within the specified timeframe and select the option for a student with disabilities/holder of the identification card when applying.
This applies to undergraduate and bridging programs and to receiving the university discount on tuition fees as stipulated by law, both in regular and parallel programs at public universities, starting from the academic year 2024-2025.
Applications from students with disabilities who do not hold the identification card will not be considered for the list of students with disabilities.
The council emphasized the need to apply promptly to obtain the identification card and to visit its offices to receive priority in diagnosis during the specified period for unified admission.
The council also stressed that students must use personal computers to apply for the identification card through the council's official website.
The identification card is an electronic card that serves as a substitute for medical reports. Issued by the HCD, it indicates the type, degree, and nature of the disability based on an evaluation and diagnosis by multidisciplinary medical committees.
The card is included in the digital identity data on the Sanad application.
