Belal Muhammad defeated Leon Edwards today in UFC 304 to clinch the World Welterweight title, becoming the first ever UFC champion of Palestinian background.

The Chicago-born fighter secured a unanimous decision victory in the event held in Manchester, England – after walking out to Palestinian artist Mohammad Assaf’s song Dammi Falastini (My blood is Palestinian).

The 36-year-old spared no time after the win, and quickly dedicated his prestigious win to the people of Palestine in his post-fight interview.

“This is for my people in Palestine. They’re fighting the real fight,” Belal Muhammad said, who was born to Palestinian parents in Chicago, Illinois.

“It sounds like all of the people booing have got a lot of tears coming out of their eyes. I’ve got my family in here. God first, always. This fight is for my family, my people and for Palestine,” he added.

Muhammad became the first fighter to beat Leon Edwards since 2015, breaking his 12-fight win streak – and extended his own undefeated streak since 2019.
