Netanyahu's US Congress speech sparks applause inside, protests outside
“Israeli” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech before a joint session of the U.S. Congress on Wednesday evening, which was met with continuous applause from the attending members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Netanyahu emphasized the importance of solidarity between the two nations, stating, "We are at a historic crossroads, in a struggle between barbarism and civilization. It is imperative for Israel and the United States to stand together to ensure the triumph of civilization."
Outside the Capitol, however, the reception was markedly different. Protesters gathered to express their opposition to Netanyahu's visit and speech.
Many held signs denouncing Netanyahu’s policies and actions, particularly regarding the recent war on Gaza. Some demonstrators called for the arrest of Netanyahu and other “Israeli” officials, accusing them of war crimes.
The protests were bolstered by a boycott of the speech by several members of the Democratic Party, who cited concerns over “Israel's” actions in Gaza as a reason for their absence.
