Jordanian trucks bound for Lebanon remain stuck at Syrian Free Zone

The crisis of Jordanian trucks bound for Lebanon continues to escalate as they remain stuck in the designated area before the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Free Zone.

The President of the Association Owners of Clearance & Transport Companies, Deif Allah Abu Aqoula, informed Roya on Tuesday that around 600 Jordanian trucks, loaded with a variety of goods such as food, vehicles, and electronics, are stranded in the truck area.

This is a direct result of Damascus' decision to prohibit the issuance of any customs declaration without prior approval from the Syrian Customs Department.

Abu Aqoula highlighted that Jordanian trucks rely heavily on the Syrian free zone for the transportation of goods to Lebanon. This route is favored as it saves time and effort compared to other options.

The trucks deliver the goods to the free zone, from where they are then transported by Syrian trucks to their final destinations in Lebanon.

He emphasized that any delay in this process not only increases costs but also poses a risk to the safety of the goods, particularly perishable food items.

In response to the crisis, Abu Aqoula confirmed that there are ongoing official communications between Jordan and Syria.
