PSD issues strict penalties for celebratory gunfire
The Public Security Directorate (PSD) issued a stern warning about the dangers of firing bullets during various celebrations, emphasizing the severe consequences such actions can have on both lives and property.
In a post on X, the PSD declared, "Anyone who fires a gun unnecessarily shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of three months or by a fine of JD1,000, or by both. The weapon used will be confiscated, even if it was licensed."

The penalties for firing bullets without necessity under Jordanian law can be severe, according to the PSD, potentially leading to temporary hard labor or even harsher sentences based on the incident's circumstances and consequences.
The legal repercussions include:
- Imprisonment for three months, a fine of one thousand dinars, or both, for anyone who fires a bullet without necessity. The weapon used will be confiscated, even if it is licensed.
- Imprisonment for not less than one year for anyone who causes harm to a person unintentionally.
- Temporary hard labor if the act results in any permanent disability.
- Temporary hard labor for not less than ten years if the act results in the death of a person.
- The penalties mentioned in the last two points are doubled in the event of recurrence or if multiple victims are involved.
