The Palestinian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned “Israel” on Saturday for targeting the Christian community in Palestine, particularly in Jerusalem.

The ministry’s statements were issued after Israeli Occupation notified several churches of impending "legal" measures aimed at imposing taxes on churches, their institutions, and properties in the occupied city.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry views these actions as part of a systematic effort to undermine the Christian community in the region.

The ministry described “Israel's” actions as "a blatant violation of international law and the city’s historical and legal 'Status Quo'."

The ministry stressed that “Israel”, as an occupying power, has no sovereignty over Jerusalem and its imposition of these taxes is illegal.

“These unlawful measures are perceived as part of a broader strategy of extermination and ethnic cleansing that Israel is practicing against all the Palestinian people,” the statement read.

The Foreign Ministry called on the international community to intervene and support the positions of the churches and the State of Palestine.

It urged countries to take action to halt what it described as serious violations of international law, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the historical and legal Status Quo.
