The council of church heads in Jordan convened Wednesday in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, to discuss the current circumstances following the issue of opening churches in a limited or partial manner during the Christian holidays, in light of the defense laws and the COVID-19 situation.

After full coordination and communication between the church heads, the Jordanian government and the concerned authorities, the following was decided:

⦁ On Friday April 30, 2021 (Good Friday), all churches in the Kingdom will be closed, provided that the prayers will be broadcasted on social media platforms in a unified manner within each diocese, without the presence of worshipers, in compliance with the lockdown and restrictions.

⦁ On Sunday April 25, 2021 (Palm Sunday), churches will open (in the morning period) until 11:00 am.

⦁ During the Holy Week, prayers will performed as specified in each church, according to the custom within the permitted hours in compliance with the curfew hours.

⦁ On Sunday May 2, 2021 (Easter Sunday) churches will be open from the morning until 11:00 am.

The Council of Church Heads in Jordan stressed the need to adhere to all preventive measures and procedures, and to fully cooperate with the decisions issued by the competent authorities for the prescribed hours of prohibition, which we hope will preserve the health and safety of everyone.
