The Major Felonies Court has sentenced a man in his twenties for the sexual assault of a 9-year-old boy, which involved touching a boy’s buttocks.

During a public session, the court convicted the defendant of sexual assault under Article 299 of the Penal Code and sentenced him to 8 years of hard labor.

The court found that the victim went to the grocery store -where the defendant worked- to buy juice.

The defendant asked the boy to go to an area where potato chips were displayed in the grocery store before the boy headed there.

According to the court's decision, the defendant placed his hand on the boy's buttocks over his clothes. When the boy asked why, the defendant claimed he was cleaning off dirt.

The defendant then asked the boy to follow him to a nearby room claiming that he wanted to give him something, where he kept touching the boy again.

The court's decision noted that the defendant yelled at the victim when the boy said he would tell his mother what had happened.

The defendant attempted to bribe the boy with money or biscuits to keep him quiet. The boy left, and the following day he informed his parents about the incident.
