Israeli Occupation is root cause of Palestinian turmoil: Navi Pillay

Navi Pillay, Chair Commissioner of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, asserted on Wednesday that the ongoing Israel Occupation is the fundamental cause of the turmoil in the Palestinian territories.

“Palestinians have endured decades of suffering due to the occupation of their land,” Pillay stated.

She emphasized that the commission’s investigation remains incomplete, as the occupation has barred the commission from accessing critical areas including Gaza, the West Bank, and the occupied interior. She highlighted that the International Criminal Court (ICC) plans to rely on the findings of the commission’s report.

In light of these obstacles, Pillay has called for an expansion of her mission. She noted that the UN has been fully cooperative and that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) exists with the ICC Prosecutor, facilitating the collaboration.
