Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), raised alarm on social media today over the denial of humanitarian assistance to northern Gaza by Israeli authorities.

In a tweet, Lazzarini highlighted that UNRWA, which serves as a crucial lifeline for Palestine refugees, has been prevented from delivering lifesaving aid to the region.

Despite the unfolding tragedy and urgent need for assistance, Israeli Occupation authorities have informed the UN that they will no longer approve any food convoys to northern Gaza.

The decision to block UNRWA's access to provide aid in northern Gaza has sparked outrage, with Lazzarini describing it as outrageous and intentional obstruction of lifesaving assistance amid a man-made famine.

He emphasized the urgent need for these restrictions to be lifted to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe.

UNRWA, as the largest organization with extensive reach to displaced communities in Gaza, plays a critical role in providing essential support to vulnerable populations. By impeding UNRWA's ability to fulfill its mandate in Gaza, there are growing concerns that the region will face accelerated deterioration, leading to increased hunger, dehydration, and lack of shelter.

Lazzarini stressed that allowing such restrictions to persist would expedite the onset of famine and result in more lives lost. He called on the international community to intervene and ensure that UNRWA can continue its vital work unhindered, emphasizing that failure to do so would tarnish the collective humanity of society.
