The Grand Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 20 years of hard labor for strangling his two-year-old daughter in Amman and sending photos of the act to his ex-wife to spite her.

The court found the 28-year-old guilty of premeditated murder under Article 3226 of the Penal Code in a public session.

According to the details seen by Roya, marital and family disputes arose a year before the crime, which occurred in January of this year. The conflicts were due to the defendant's drug and alcohol use and his desire to involve his ex-wife in begging and prostitution, which she refused, leading her to leave him.

The ex-wife filed for divorce on grounds of discord and disputes, eventually obtaining a ruling in her favor. Despite multiple attempts by the defendant to persuade her to return, she consistently refused, and he threatened her with harm to their daughter, saying, "I will break your heart over her."

Per the agreement with his ex-wife, the child stayed with the father at his parents' home. When he later tried to return the child to her mother, she informed him that she was out of town and asked him to bring the child the next day.

The court's decision noted that after seeing a photo of his ex-wife with another person on WhatsApp, the defendant became enraged. He took the child to a deserted area in southern Amman, placed her on his lap, and covered her nose and mouth, suffocating her.

After confirming the child's death, the defendant photographed her and sent the images to her mother, along with a voice message indicating he had killed their daughter. He then called his brother to inform him of the incident before being apprehended.
