Fines waived for expats violating Residency, Foreigner Affairs Law
The committee established under Article 6 of the General Pardon Law No. 5 of 2024 decided to waive fines imposed on violators of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law under the General Pardon Law.
Article 34/A of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law No. 24 of 1973 and its amendment, imposes a fine of 45 dinars per month or part thereof for violators who have entered Jordan legally but failed to obtain a temporary residency permit, exceeded the duration of their granted residency, or failed to apply for renewal within one month from its expiry.
There exists a significant number of foreigners who incurred fines for overstaying their residency, as per the aforementioned provisions.
The committee, in accordance with Article 6 of the General Pardon Law No. 5 of 2024, decided that the fine stipulated in Article 34 of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Law constitutes a punishment and is subject to the provisions of Article 2 of the General Pardon Law, thus waived under its provisions.
