Prime Minister Al-Khasawneh lays foundation stone for Zarqa Industrial Estate project

Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the Zarqa Industrial Estate project, coinciding with King Abdullah II's visit to Zarqa Governorate on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty's constitutional rule.

The Prime Minister emphasized the economic and investment importance of the project as part of the state's efforts to prepare a suitable environment to enhance industry and attract investment.

He affirmed the necessity of completing it within the set timelines and communicating with investors for marketing purposes.

Luai Sihweil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordanian Industrial Estates Company (JIEC), briefed the Prime Minister on the project's completion stages, which will be conducted in three phases. He noted that the completion rate of the first phase has reached about 40%.

Sahweil highlighted that the first phase is expected to provide about 8,500 job opportunities, while the project, by the end of the third and final phase in 2030, will provide 21,000 jobs.

The Zarqa Industrial Estate project, funded by the Jordanian Industrial Estates Company, is located 30 kilometers east of Zarqa towards Azraq, right off the international road (Zarqa-Azraq), and about 15 kilometers from the Zarqa Free Zone.

The cost of the first phase of the project is approximately 21.5 million Jordanian dinars, with completion expected by mid-2025.

The total area of Zarqa Industrial City is about 2,500 dunums, with the first phase covering approximately 1,116 dunums.

A service road has been allocated for access to Zarqa Industrial Estate, connecting to the international road, stretching 750 meters.

The first phase of the project includes excavation and necessary filling works, asphalt roads and squares, infrastructure networks such as water, sewage, electricity, roads, telecommunications, administrative buildings, and other construction works required for the project's needs.

Zarqa Industrial City is the largest industrial city in the kingdom, covering a total area of 2,500 dunums, and is the first industrial city to implement the green building code by relying on clean energy for operation.

The city holds special importance due to its strategic geographic location on the international road connecting Jordan with Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria, and its proximity to industrial investments in Zarqa Governorate.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yousef Al-Shamali, Minister of Investment Khulood Saqqaf, Governor of Zarqa Hassan Al-Jabour, Director General of the Jordanian Industrial Estates Company Engineer Omar Joueid, and Mayor of Halabat Khalaf Al-Othman.
