International Court of Justice: No authority to halt German arms exports to Tel Aviv

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) Tuesday confirmed that it lacks the authority to impose provisional measures on German arms exports to “Israel”.

During a hearing today on Nicaragua's lawsuit against Germany, the court's president, Nawaf Salam, noted the lack of jurisdiction to enforce temporary measures in the case.

The court expressed concern over the dire conditions in Gaza, which it described as catastrophic.

Today's session was held to decide on Nicaragua's request for interim measures against Germany to stop arms shipments to Israel.

Nicaraguan lawyers argued that Germany is “Israel's” second largest arms supplier and that it violates international human rights agreements by suspending humanitarian aid to Palestine while continuing to supply weapons to “Israel.”
