Jordan police issue statement on Saturday's protest in Amman

The Public Security Directorate issued a statement regarding the events accompanying last night's vigils and gatherings in parts of the capital.

The statement received by Roya said that security personnel maintained order during the gatherings, displaying discipline and professionalism despite challenges.

The statement acknowledged the citizens' right to express their opinions but noted instances of misconduct, including attempts to attack security personnel and damage public and private property.

While exercising restraint, security personnel were compelled to make arrests due to escalating violations.

The Directorate emphasized its commitment to upholding community security and enabling peaceful expression of opinions within the confines of the law.

It warned against any attempts to disrupt public order, both in physical gatherings and on social media, and urged cooperation from all parties.

Earlier it was announced that activists including Maysara Malas and Ziad Ibhais were arrested during sit-ins near Al-Kalouti Mosque in Rabieh.

Complaints have surfaced about Gaza support marches turning violent, prompting police intervention.
