Report unveils identities of accounts inciting discord in Jordan
*Amid Jordanian solidarity with Gaza and protests near the empty Tel Aviv embassy in Amman, divisive social media accounts spreading misinformation rise. These accounts, suspected to be linked to Zionist committees and Israel's Unit 8200, aim to sow discord and undermine Jordan's unity amidst demonstrations supporting Gaza.*
Amid the growing support for Gaza among Jordanians and their protests near the empty Tel Aviv embassy in Amman, concerns have arisen over the emergence of divisive accounts spreading misinformation and attempting to create rifts between the Jordanian community.
Sources have noted the proliferation of such accounts seeking to sow discord among Jordanians, particularly amidst recent demonstrations supporting Gaza.
These accounts, active on various platforms including X (formerly Twitter), have been spreading falsehoods and promoting racism, aiming to undermine Jordan’s unity and official stance against the aggression in Gaza.
- What is going on? -
Several social media accounts, initially assumed to be authentic Jordanian citizens, have been spreading unsubstantiated claims about protesters and members of the security forces.
Some of these accounts allege that Jordanian participants in the marches are infiltrators manipulated by foreign entities against the nation, while others accuse security forces of excessive violence with protesters.
However, the vast majority of Jordanians have actively participated in such demonstrations since the onset of the aggression, driven by a sense of conscience and solidarity with the people of Gaza. Their primary aim is to express support for the official Jordanian stance led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
- Who is behind these accounts? -
Since the beginning of the aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7 last year, and Jordan's declaration of its supportive stance towards the people of Gaza, Zionist committees from within and outside the occupied territories have been attacking the Jordanian position and its people.
During the first 50 days of the aggression, these committees issued over 60,000 publications against Jordan on social media platforms, including skepticism about Jordanian efforts for Gaza and calls for discord and hatred among the segments of the Jordanian society.
During this period, Makana 360, a consulting data firm, monitored every publication, interview, and article mentioning Jordan in Hebrew or any other language. Tracking the IP address of some accounts revealed they belong to Indian committees hired by people from the Israeli Occupation to publish content serving the Zionist narrative across social media platforms. This was stated by Abdul Rahman Al-Hassami, founder and CEO of Makana 360.
Al-Hassami noted that 89 percent of the monitored posts contained hate speech against Jordan, King Abdullah II, Crown Prince Hussein, Queen Rania, and Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi, while 11 percent reported news about Jordan and its positions on Gaza.
These attacks would increase significantly when Jordan took any stance against the Israeli Occupation and its aggression on Gaza, with attacks rising by 70 percent after the Kingdom announced it hadn't signed the water-for-electricity agreement with the occupation.
Many of these divisive accounts are linked to Israeli Occupation's Unit 8200, one of the Israeli Occupation army's elite corps, tasked with gathering intelligence and managing electronic attacks, espionage, and eavesdropping missions.
These accounts, operating under false identities, aim to gather intelligence and incite discord within Jordanian society, posing a threat to the nation's security and stability.
The unit has been known to recruit and train personnel proficient in languages like Arabic and Hebrew to carry out these operations, highlighting the severity of cyber threats facing Jordan.
