US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has indicated progress in negotiations for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of captives, stating that the gaps are narrowing and an agreement is becoming increasingly likely.

In a statement on the US State Department website, Blinken highlighted efforts with Qatar, Egypt, and Israeli Occupation to present a robust proposal. However, he noted Hamas' refusal to accept this proposal and their presentation of alternative demands, placing the responsibility on Hamas to accept the proposed agreement.

Blinken emphasized the urgency of securing an agreement, stating that it is crucial for alleviating the suffering of people in Gaza. He acknowledged shortcomings in aid distribution to Gaza residents and urged Israeli Occupation to increase access points, mentioning ongoing efforts to establish a sea pier for aid delivery.

Furthermore, Blinken discussed his visit to Egypt to confer with Arab foreign ministers, stressing the importance of preparing for governance in Gaza post-aggression.

He emphasized the need for a new government with younger faces, capable of providing services, combating corruption, and earning the trust of the Palestinian people.
