Louis Vuitton labeled as “anti-Semitic” over watermelon t-shirt
French luxury fashion brand, Louis Vuitton, has been labeled as “anti-Semitic” for featuring a patch of watermelon over one of their t-shirts by an American watchdog non-profit organization “StopAntisemitism” which claims to monitor and expose online antisemitism.
The organization bizarrely claimed on their “X” account that the watermelon on the t-shirt, which is drawn in an upside down triangle, is an “ode to Hamas” and specifically Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, which famously uses upside down red triangles to mark “Israeli” vehicles and soldiers in the footage published from the battles in the Gaza Strip.
“Did Louis Vuitton create a $820 t-shirt as an ode to Hamas?” the organization stated.
It also noted the colors of the watermelon patch, which is black, red, and green as another “evidence” of Louis Vuitton’s alleged anti-semitism. The brand’s initials, LV, are patched on the t-shirt and represented with a watermelon and its colors.
The French clothing brand describes the t-shirt on their website as “embellished with a graphic seasonal signature.”
“The chest is embellished with a patch featuring this season’s graphic LV Initials.”
Watermelons became a symbol used by Palestinians and pro-Palestinians to publicly express their support for the cause and the struggle against the Israeli Occupation; due to the Palestinian flag being historically banned at times in “Israel” - Thus, watermelons have been used as an alternative.
